What were you looking to accomplish when you were looking for a trainer?
I’m 66 years old. I’ve been a very active athlete my whole life. For the past 30 years I’ve done a lot of judo, aikido, road and mountain biking and windsurfing. Until 6 years ago I also did weight training.
Six years ago, I injured myself in an aikido training session and was incapacitated for about a year. Since then I’ve almost completely recovered from that injury but had a few more injuries that set me back.
I was looking for a personal trainer that has an approach to training that develops core strength and muscle tone that will allow me to continue doing my aikido and biking at the level and intensity that I want to as I age.
I owned a large health club for 13 years and have worked with about 50 personal trainers. Many of them were very good at traditional strength training.
I was looking for someone significantly different than the usual, certified trainer that I’ve worked with. I wanted someone that understood movement and dynamic action, not just building muscles.
Ten minutes into my first session with George I realized he had a unique approach that was going to exceed my expectations.
Every session is different with a diverse range of training that keeps it interesting and challenging.
My first result with George was a “surprise.”
I knew that I was somewhat deconditioned for the activities I wanted to continue doing. I didn’t know how far off my balance and functional strength was and how much my body was compensating for this until I started working with George.
In the first session we worked on balance, coordination and dynamic, functional strength. Using George’s bands and other equipment every exercise impacted and challenged my core and a range of muscles.
The second surprise was that in about two months my posture dramatically improved and I grew half an inch.
We didn’t specifically work on posture but George’s focus on perfect form while doing exercises that require my body to provide the stability rather than relying on weight training machines for stability improved my posture, balance and functional strength.
George has been an accomplished martial artist most of his life. He uses this experience to help train me on how to move for intense activity.
This has also helped me with simple activities such as walking, standing up, getting off the floor after body weight exercises and just living life.
