What were you looking to accomplish when you were looking for a trainer?
I am a 37 year-old competitive professional boxer, I have been involved in various athletics since the age of 6. I have been boxing professionally from 2004-2010, followed by a 6 year lay off from boxing from 2010-2016.
In 2016, I decided to make a comeback in the sport of boxing. I have trained with a variety of strength and conditioning coaches throughout my life. In 2017, I wanted to take my game to the next level.
In order to become a high-level competitor in the sport, I knew I had to improve every aspect of my skill set and attributes enhance my strength, power, endurance, speed, reaction time, footwork, head movement, biomechanical output and most importantly awareness
I originally met George at a local gym, where he asked me to help him do some boxing pad work. He worked out with me several times and then we began to get together and move around with one another.
I was extremely impressed at his ability to move and execute his skill set especially for a person of his size and age. He had speed, timing, footwork, head movement which were all elements I wanted to improve upon as I ventured deeper into my sport and discipline.
After our workouts he would tell me about his unique approach to strength and conditioning, as well as the discipline he was involved in.
Everything he did and said made perfect sense as it was related to fighting.
His insight and experience in combat sports set him apart from any of the other trainers that I have come in contact with and worked with in the past.
In March of 2018 I asked George to start training me and we began working with each other immediately. My promoter/manager had set up a fight in May of 2018 after several postponements. I decided to continue to work with George until the next opportunity presented itself.
In June of 2019 I was presented with a title fight Against undefeated WBA Middleweight Continental Champion David Papot.
I had 12 weeks to prepare for the fight. Keep in mind I had not fought in nearly 2 years.
My starting weight was 178 and I had to get down to 159lbs.
George worked on enhancing my overall athletic performance while maintaining my strength and stamina during my weight cut. Our workouts were intense and focused!
Originally the fight was scheduled for 10 rounds, so the training was geared towards fighting from movement patterns, to mimicking the intensity of what it felt like to be in a 10-round fight and beyond.
Just two days before the fight my manager at that time told me that the fight was rescheduled for 12 rounds.
I was extremely upset because I was not told sooner, yet I knew in the back of my mind that I had been given the tools and ability to be able to complete the fight successfully.
I kept a great pace for 12 rounds and gave it my all, technically out scoring David, yet the Judges called it draw.
After working with George, I can honestly say that I had an overall improvement in my awareness, movement, endurance, strength, power and knowledge.
My training truly exceeded my expectations, keep in my mind that I had never competed in 12 round fight before that night!
Training with George is learning experience that’s always fun, challenging and tough, all things that I enjoy!
